Brown Brothers Harriman

VP of Business Development

ERI was retained by Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) to find a Vice President of Business Development for their Boston office.

Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) is America’s oldest and largest Private Bank, offering large bank sophistication in a personalized boutique setting. As a pre-eminent risk manager, the firm incorporates the latest strategic applications within a comprehensive, customized approach.

With offices in major financial centers around the globe, BBH maintains a base of clients that range from financial and multinational institutions to family-owned businesses and individuals. An owner-managed partnership, BBH provides financial services in the areas of investment management, commercial banking, corporate finance, private equity, securities brokerage and research, foreign exchange, and global custody. The cornerstone of its success is its superior client-oriented service, substantial global reach, strong credit ranking, and its ability to provide personalized financial expertise to a select group of individuals and institutions.

For nearly two hundred years BBH has developed a unique understanding of the issues and challenges faced by closely held businesses, either as a financial advisor to them or as an investor. From managing shareholder liquidity needs on a tax-advantaged basis to providing access to non-control private equity opportunities, BBH approaches issues as a partner and takes a stewardship perspective on all projects.

The assignment was a unique challenge for ERI because the broad nature of the opportunity required a “cross-trained athlete” with a breadth of expertise that would allow him/her to market the extremely varied BBH product line in both a commercial banking and high net worth investment advisory context.

The successful candidate is James Seppala, who has diverse Financial Services Business Development expertise gained at Fidelity Investments, Oak Industries Holding Corporation (a Bain Capital investment partner) and LPL Financial.

Mr. Seppala holds a BS degree in Physics from McGill University, an MSEE from Tufts University, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and an MBA with a double major of Finance and Entrepreneurial Management from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
